CWWR Scholarship Applications & Award Nominations Due Mon., Aug 16th

It’s time to start your scholarship application and be thinking of your nominations for the Trent Goscha Sportsmanship Award

The Carbondale Wild West Rodeo Association Board established the Trent Goscha Sportsmanship Award in 2017. Trent’s family, Mike and Jayme his parents and sister Tess have been very supportive and provided sponsorship for this award as well. The belt buckle award is presented annually at the Finals Rodeo in memory of Trent.

Trent was a bright light in the community helping with the local gymkhanas, participating in the Roaring Fork Ranch Roping and always a presence at the Carbondale Wild West Rodeo. Trent participated in Mutton Bustin’ and Calf Scramble at an early age and was always encouraging others to do their best. Trent had a contagious laugh and a smile that lit up a room. He is greatly missed and our hope is that his memory and his exuberance for life will be carried out through others who have a love for the cowboy way of life and that never give up attitude.

Volunteers and participants of Carbondale Wild West Rodeo and/or the Mt. Sopris Gymkhana are eligible for this award. Nominations are due no later than Monday, August 16th. The award will be announced at the Finals Rodeo, August 19th. It does not need to be a written nomination but if speaking to one of the board members please be able to explain why you believe this individual is the best candidate for the award. If submitting an email please write a paragraph or two that explains how your nomination exemplifies sportsmanship.

Our rodeo family keeps the Goscha family in our thoughts and prayers. We seek to keep Trent’s memory alive by being joyous in spirit, never giving up, looking to others needs, and perhaps being just a tad ornery like Trent was.

To submit a nomination you can email to: [email protected] or talk to any of the board members at the rodeo. Your board members are Mike Kennedy, Tom Harrington, Melanie Cardiff, and Steve Turley.

The deadline for the Carbondale Wild West Rodeo Scholarship is fast approaching. Applications must be submitted by Monday, August 16th.

It is the desire of the Carbondale Wild West Rodeo Association to make available two awards to Carbondale Wild West Rodeo Association contestants or volunteers who are actively enrolled in college or a trade school.

the “Spirit of Court Will Award” in memory and honor of Court will be awarded at the final rodeo. Court was the son of Perry and Susan Will and he left this earth far too soon. The Will family continues to honor Court’s memory and love of the sport of rodeo by awarding a rodeo participant or volunteer who best exhibits an unselfish attitude of help and caring towards others and who steps up first to volunteer. So, contestants and volunteers be kind out there and keep up the good work looking out for others. The Will family with help of a few friends is watching for those who put the needs and concerns of others before themselves.

Court, your rodeo family misses you and we continue to hold your loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.
